Dermal Fillers in Millburn, NJ

As you age, visible signs reduce the vibrancy of youthful skin. Wrinkles and facial volume loss can make you look tired and sunken. Thankfully, cosmetic innovations, like dermal fillers, can restore the natural curves of your face or augment desirable results by building volume and skin elasticity without having to go under the knife. You’ll still look like yourself, only rejuvenated and more radiant.

Here at the Millburn Laser Center in Millburn, NJ our board-certified dermatologists are expert injectors who use dermal fillers such as Restylane and Belotero to add subtle volume for the correction of fine lines and wrinkles, folds, and hollowing areas of the face.

What Are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are smooth injectable gels composed of hyaluronic acid (HA) –a natural substance in our bodies that helps hydrate and add volume to the skin. HA stabilizes the structure of the skin as it attracts and binds water, thereby boosting moisture and elasticity. When injected, unlike Botox, dermal fillers will erase lines around the face, enhance lips, and restore volume on the cheeks, giving you a fresh natural-looking lift.

What Can Dermal Fillers Treat?

Dermal filler injections are not only used as a non-invasive technique to contour the face shape to your preference, but to help fill and smooth lines, wrinkles, and deep folds found on the temples, cheeks, lips, jowls, jawline, and chin.

The Dermal Filler Procedure

The treatment begins with a consultation that includes a full facial assessment. Your aesthetic goals will be discussed in order to customize your treatment plan.

A fine needle is then used to inject the filler into the targeted facial muscles.

The length of the procedure will depend on which areas are being treated and the number of injections you choose to receive.

After the procedure at our Millburn dermatology center, you will be given a comprehensive set of post-treatment care guidelines.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Are Dermal Fillers Safe?

A: At Millburn Laser Center, we use FDA-approved Restylane and Belotero products. Their safety and efficacy are clinically proven. Dermal fillers have also been used for over a decade now, with over 2 million injections performed each year.

Q: Do The Injections Hurt?

A: The injections cause little to no pain. Lidocaine is mixed with most fillers to help numb the area. Also, the ultrafine needles used will only produce a slight pinch or prick more than anything. To ensure your comfort, you may opt to have a topical numbing cream or ice pack applied to the treatment area before the procedure.

Q: How Soon Will I See Results?

A: Dermal filler injections produce virtually immediate results and become optimal in 1-2 weeks.

Q: How Long Will They Last?

A: Results will last anywhere between 6-24 months, depending on the area being treated, the thickness of the product, and the biological factors of the client. Dermal fillers naturally degrade in the body and work faster in areas where there is a lot of movement. For instance, fillers injected in the lips and mouth will break down quicker (typically between 3-6 months). A follow-up treatment, which is usually performed around 6-12 months after the initial session, is recommended to maintain results.

Q: Is There Downtime?

A: There is no downtime, but you may experience some swelling and/or bruising for a few days. After your dermal filler treatment at our skin care clinic, you can immediately resume your regular schedule and activities.

Q: Are There Side Effects?

A: A few minor reactions may occur after the procedure, and are typically resolved within 1-7 days. Side effects include redness, swelling, bruising, tenderness, itching, and pain

Q: Who Should Not Get Dermal Fillers?
A: Those who have active inflammation on the skin (e.g., skin infections, cold sores, eczema, psoriasis, sunburn, or a healing wound), are hypersensitive or allergic to dermal filler ingredients as well as local anesthetics, are under 18 years of age, are pregnant or breastfeeding, have immune system-related medical conditions, and have recently had major dental work done are not suitable candidates for dermal fillers.
Q: What Precautions Should I Take After A Dermal Filler Treatment?
A: It is recommended not to do strenuous activities for 24 hours to avoid inadvertently moving the filler to another location. And until the redness and swelling have been resolved, avoid hot or freezing temperatures by refraining from exposure to the sun (always wear sunscreen), saunas, hot wax, and hot tubs, as well as cold activities such as skiing.
Q: How Are Dermal Fillers Different From Botox?
A: Botox is used to temporarily relax the muscles that contribute to wrinkles, while dermal fillers physically fill in lines and wrinkles, hollows, and other areas of the face that lack volume. Filler results are immediately visible, while Botox takes several days to see results. Dermal fillers may also be used alone or in combination with Botox to create a non-surgical facelift.
Q: Can Dermal Fillers Be Reversed?

A: If your dermal filler results are uneven or simply unsatisfactory, don’t worry. HA fillers such as Restylane and Belotero can be dissolved using Hyaluronidase injections, therefore correcting any undesirable filler results.

Q: Can Dermal Fillers Be Combined With Laser Treatments?
A: Yes. Most laser treatments do not penetrate the skin deep enough to affect the dermal fillers injected. However, it is recommended that the two treatments be spaced 1-2 weeks apart (or as directed by your dermatologist) to allow for any swelling to subside.
