About Summit
Summit, also known as the Hill City, is a city in Union County, New Jersey. The city has a total area of 6.05 square miles and is about 20 miles west of Manhattan. Summit is located in northern-central New Jersey, within the Raritan Valley and Rahway Valley regions in the New York metropolitan area. It is bordered by Millburn, NJ on the northeast, and is located just northwest of Chatham, NJ.
According to the 2019 census, Summit has a population of approximately 22,000. Summit is a diverse, family-oriented residential community with many residents who work in the finance and real estate industry, as traders, investment bankers, and money managers. It is said that Manhattan’s financial elite prefer living in Summit for its larger houses, great school system, and convenient NJ Transit rail link that connects to Manhattan’s financial district.
Summit’s Downtown District has a myriad of retail and commercial businesses with a variety of specialty gift shops, clothing stores, restaurants, coffee shops, and wine outlets. Summit recognizes the importance of the downtown business district to the overall quality of life in the community and created a Think Local First program to help keep the local economy healthy and strong.
